    Dr. Peter Bekendam currently serves as Medical Director for Pacific Eye Institute and has been a part of our team since 2016. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in cataract and anterior segment surgery, glaucoma procedures, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Over the course of his 15+ year career, he has performed over 15,000 cataract procedures in the greater Inland Empire area. In addition, he is excited to expand his surgical practice to include operating out of the practice’s new High Desert Surgery location in Apple Valley, starting in the summer of 2022. In addition to his role as a practicing ophthalmologist, Dr. Bekendam currently serves as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, where he earned his own Medical Degree in 2004. Dr. Bekendam is the Founder and President of Sight Restoration International, a non-profit organization which works to bring vision-restoration surgery to patients in developing countries.     Dr. JoAnn Henwood is a national and state-board certified optometrist specializing in primary eye care as well as pre and post-op care for surgical patients. Dr. Henwood has a passion for patient education and believes patient involvement in their care leads to better visual outcomes. She has been caring for patients at Pacific Eye Institute since 2016 and today is the supervising OD. Dr. Henwood is a member of the Beta Sigma Kapa Optometric Honor Society and was awarded inclusion in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges honor program. In her spare time, Dr. Henwood enjoys boating and camping with her family.

  • Nicolas Biro, M.D.

    Ophthalmologist specializing in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgery

    We are pleased to introduce Dr. Nicolas Biro, the newest Board Certified, fellowship trained ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery specialist at Pacific Eye Institute. Dr. Biro specializes in surgery of the upper and lower eyelids, the tear drainage system and the orbit. He also offers rejuvenation services, including cosmetic fillers and botulinum toxin injections for wrinkle reduction. Dr. Biro is a best-in-class surgeon accepting new patients and he’s ready to assist you with your oculofacial needs. Dr. Biro is passionate about teaching, recently overseeing oculoplastic resident education at two residency programs in New York. While there, he covered two Level 1 trauma centers, repairing fractures and complex lacerations of the face. Dr. Biro has authored multiple publications and presentations, he has donated his time as a medical volunteer in the Dominican Republic and India, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.

Dr. Rudometkin is committed to bringing his patients effective, leading-edge treatments for a wide range of retinal disorders from macular degeneration to diabetic retinopathy and vitreoretinal surgery. When he is not helping his patients, Dr. Rudometkin enjoys spending his time with his children, cycling, traveling, and playing basketball – he is a former NAIA Division II player.
